Essential Items for a successful Personal Brand Photoshoot

So, you’ve booked your personal brand photoshoot—exciting! Now, let’s talk about what to bring to make sure the day is as smooth, fun, and successful as possible.

The goal? To capture images that truly feel like you and leave you with a gallery you’ll love using across your brand.

Here’s a list of essentials to keep in mind as you prep:

Outfits that Reflect Your Brand

Let’s start with the fun part – your outfits! Choosing the right outfits is key to nailing the vibe of your shoot. Aim for clothes that not only feel comfortable but also align with your brand’s style and personality.

Here are a few tips for choosing outfits that work well on camera:

  • Mix and Match: Bring a few options that offer variety; A go-to polished look, something casual, and maybe a pop of colour or some texture to keep things visually interesting. (Think: Primary Outfits: Your go-to look that screams YOU. Secondary Outfits: A few more options for variety, maybe something casual and something a bit more glam.)

  • Shoes: A couple of pairs of shoes to match different outfits. Heels can elongate your figure, while flats might be more comfortable and help capture the casual look.

  • Brand Colours: Incorporating your brand colours or complementary shades is a subtle way to keep everything cohesive.

  • Accessories: Jackets, scarves, and those jewellery can help you switch up your look without needing a full outfit change. Keep it simple but elegant to enhance your look without overpowering it.

  • My top tip!! . . . Bring everything in a Small Suitcase: This will making everything so much easier.

Skincare Essentials for a Fresh Look

Camera-ready skin doesn’t mean piling on makeup; it’s all about looking fresh and feeling your best. Bring along a few skincare essentials to keep your glow going all day:

  • Moisturiser: A good moisturiser can help keep your skin looking fresh and dewy throughout the day.

  • Lip Balm: Hydrated lips make a big difference on camera!

  • Face Mist: A quick spritz of face mist can be refreshing and help keep makeup looking fresh.

Quick Touch-Up Kit

Speaking of makeup, if you’re planning to do your own makeup, it’s helpful to have a few essentials on hand for touch-ups throughout the day:

  • Foundation and Pressed Powder: Especially if you’re shooting outside, powder helps keep shine in check and foundation will keep your complexion flawless throughout the shoot.

  • Lip Colour: For those quick touch-ups plus a pop of colour can brighten up your face, so bring a shade you love.

  • Hair Tools: Think a hairbrush, clips, and maybe a little hairspray if it’s breezy or humid. To keep your locks in place and ensure your hair stays photo-ready.

  • Makeup Remover Wipes: For any quick fixes.

Props That Tell Your Story

Props add personality and help communicate your story visually. Think about what items naturally represent your business or brand, like:

  • Tools of the Trade: Showcase what you do best. (See below for some recommendations for a few trades to get your creative juices flowing.) Most personal brand shoots tend to include a Laptop; Handy for any digital needs and can be used as a prop, and Notebooks and Pens; which are perfect for jotting down last-minute ideas or notes during the shoot but even better props.

    • Makeup Artist: Bring your makeup brushes, palettes, and any other essential tools.

    • Artist: Pack your paint brushes, sketchbooks, and a selection of paints.

    • Fashion Designer: Bring fabric swatches, sewing tools, and a mannequin if possible.

    • Chef/Baker: Include some utensils, ingredients, or finished dishes to highlight your culinary skills.

    • Photographer: Bring your camera gear, lenses, and any other essential equipment.

  • On-Brand Items: Think about the details that reflect your brand, a signature pen, fresh flowers, or even a stylish phone case can help set the scene.

    • Product Samples: Showcase what you offer with a few samples.

    • Branded Materials: Business cards, branded notebooks, or any merchandise with your logo.

  • Personal Touches: Objects with a personal connection (like a favourite book, champagne glasses, books, magazines or an inspiring quote) add authenticity.

  • Furniture or Décor: If you are using a studio space or style location house it is worth considering items that will enhance the setting and align with your brand’s look.

Comfortable Shoes

While your photos might feature heels or stylish boots, don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes for getting to and from locations. Trust me, having a pair of comfy flats or trainers on hand will make your day so much easier!

Hydration and Snacks

Staying hydrated is a must! Bring along a water bottle and a couple of light snacks to keep your energy up, especially if we’re on location for a few hours. A quick snack break can be a great chance to reset, relax, and refuel for the next part of the shoot.

The Just In Case Bits

  • Phone Charger: Essential for those behind-the-scenes shots and communication

  • Emergency Kit: Safety pins, stain remover, and a small sewing kit - just in case. - If you book with me, I will take care of this for you.

Important Documents and Plans:

If you book with me, I take care of all of this for you, I will bring it all so we can work through together on the day and this ensures you don’t miss any important shots, but not all brand photogrpahers offer the same service so it is worth printing copies yourself; to keep everything organised and on track, don’t forget:

  • Shot List: A detailed list of the shots we want to capture.

  • Mood Board: Visual inspiration to guide us.

  • Schedule: A timeline for the day to ensure everything runs smoothly.

  • Location Booking Details: Just for peace of mind ;-)

Confidence and a Relaxed Mindset

Most importantly, come ready to enjoy the day! This shoot is all about you and your brand, so take a deep breath, trust the process, and know that you’re in great hands Bringing along a positive, relaxed mindset is the best way to ensure your personality shines through in every shot.

A successful photoshoot is all about preparation and a little bit of fun. So gather your essentials, trust the process, and get excited to create a set of images that will represent your brand beautifully. If you have any questions as you prep, I’m just a message away!
